In Case of an Accident, Be an Informed Owner
When it comes to your new or pre-owned Kia, you have the right to select the
parts you want to be put in your car. So here at our Collision Center, we
believe in full disclosure and honesty when it comes to our parts and our
repairs, so we try to educate all of our Libertyville and Gurnee customers
about their options. Read below to find out more about the differences in the
kinds of parts you’re your car could receive:
General Information
When your car suffers a crash, "collision repair parts" and
"replacement crash parts" are the parts that are usually replaced once
your car is repaired. These parts are usually the exterior sheet metal
components, such as fenders, hoods, doors, and related parts, as well as the
key plastic components such as bumper covers and the headlamp assemblies.
Warranty Coverage
The manufacturer or the parts distributor usually provide the warranties for
collision repair parts, and this warranty coverage can vary. When you need a
repair, your insurance company or your collision center should provide you with
written warranty statements for all the parts that they’re using in your
vehicle.
Types of Collision Repair Parts include:
New Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM): When parts are
identified as OEM, this means that the parts were made by the vehicle
manufacturer, or by one of the manufacturer’s licensees, and they’re
distributed through the normal, official channels. Because these parts are
original, they maintain the manufacturer’s vehicle warranty.
Aftermarket or imitation: These are parts that have been made by companies other than the original vehicle
manufacturer or its approved licensees.
Recycled or used salvage: These are used parts and assemblies that were removed from other
vehicles. These parts are not regulated, so their safety and quality are not
guaranteed.
Remanufactured: These parts have been returned to like-new condition through
repair, refurbishing or rebuilding.
Due to the critical nature of Supplemental Restraint Systems (also known as air
bags), here at our Gurnee
area Kia dealership we do not support the use of imitation or used parts
for their repair. As experienced technicians, we believe that only new genuine
parts should be used to repair or replace Supplemental Restraint Systems.
