Technically, there is one major difference between an SUV and a Crossover: the design. A crossover utilizes a “unibody design” where the body and frame are constructed as one single piece. In contrast, an SUV’s body and frame are built separately from one another and then joined together towards the end of the manufacturing process.

This affects the vehicles in a few ways, primarily in regards to their handling. An SUV resembles the handling of a truck or off-roading vehicle, while a crossover will tend to handle more sedan-like.
