We’ve been raving about the latest arrival at our Gurnee,IL Kia car dealership, the brand new 2017 Kia Sportage. Now that the compact SUV is among the selections in our new car inventory, it’s time to take a closer look at its features and a recent award. There’s one particularly strong aspect to this very valuable car, which packs plenty of technology under its redesigned exterior, and that’s safety.
The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, one of the biggest authorities on testing cars, gave the new Kia Sportage its top rating. The 2017 Kia Sportage is honored by the Top Safety Pick+ title. It wasn’t an easy one to get, as there are several challenging crash tests required in order to earn the award.
Five different “Crashworthiness” tests look into different sides of the car: small overlap front, moderate overlap front, side, roof strength, and head restraint & seats. In all these, the Kia Sportage received a “good” rating, which is the best possible score. Furthermore, when equipped with optional technology, the car received the best possible rating in the “Crash Avoidance & Mitigation” category — “Superior.”
The stellar safety systems in the new Kia Sportage start with a powerful chassis built on Advanced High-Strength Steel to emphasize durability. Front and side airbags have special sensors to spring into action as urgently as possible. In addition to these, several technologies assist the driver in avoiding or mitigating possible danger, like Autonomous Emergency Braking. It monitors vehicles ahead and can act by braking when it starts detecting a possible collision. Lane-Departure Warning and Lane-Change Assist are there to support the driver should the need arise.
