There probably isn’t anybody in the entire world who goes home after buying a brand new vehicle and thinks to herself, “Wow, I simply cannot wait to pay the auto insurance on this sucker!” Because let’s face it—paying for insurance is probably the second most detestable way a human being can spend money (with taxes being the big winner in that particular category).

Despite all that, the law tells us that we have to pay insurance just the same, so if there’s a way for a consumer to lower that cost, they’d be pretty smart to do it, right?

Of course, but the problem with insurance is that most of the variables that go into determining cost are things you really can’t help. Where you live is one factor, as is your age and your gender. Your driving record plays into things, too, but you can’t control what happened in the past. The only thing you can control is what kind of car you actually buy in the first place, and thanks to Fortune magazine, we now know which current models are the least expensive to insure.

Happily, the 2013 Kia Sportage is among those vehicles listed, mostly because crossovers have generally surpassed minivans as the least expensive vehicles to insure. On top of everything else this vehicle does well, it also saves money on the insurance tip. In Gurnee, used cars are a dime a dozen, but the Sportage is one of the few you can count on as a saver in this particular regard. If you’ve got pay insurance, you may as well pay less for it, right?
