Classic Kia

Our Kia dealership in Waukegan is here to help with all your vehicle needs. We’re much more than just a car dealership—we also offer a top-notch service center staffed with automotive experts. In my 26 years of service experience, I’ve seen pretty much everything that can go wrong with a vehicle. Here are a few of the more common questions we get at the service center.

Q: It’s cold outside and an orange tire symbol just popped up on the dash. What does this mean?

The most common reason for this orange dash icon is your tire pressure is too low, which is a common occurrence when the temperature changes. Examine your tires to see if they’re flat. If they’re fine to drive on, bring your car to our Waukegan service center. We’ll get them back to the right pressure level.

Q: Can I drive safely if the check engine light comes on?

Provided you do not see any other lights on or flashing on the dashboard, your car is safe to drive for now. However, schedule a service appointment right away to make sure everything is actually fine.

Q: I’m hearing a squeaking sound from the brakes while I drive, though it disappears when they’re actually applied. What’s going on?

A: There’s a sensor built into your brake pads that gives off a shrill sound when they are starting to come into contact with the brake rotor. The sound lets you know your brake pads need to be changed right away. While they’re safe to drive on, don’t wait too long to visit us, or you’ll damage your rotors.

Q: My car is starting to overheat. What do I do?

A: No good can come from an overheating car. If your car overheats for too long, it can ruin the engine. Immediately pull over to a safe place and turn the car completely off. Your best bet is to call a tow truck right away and tow the car to Classic Kia. Please do not try to check or add any fluid to your radiator. Any remaining fluid will be excruciatingly hot and can cause severe burns. Let us take a look at the car and determine why your vehicle is overheating before driving again.

Q: Does my car battery have a good electrical connection? How can I tell?

A: Every so often, the cables and terminals on your battery need to be checked and cleaned so they stay connected. All of the services we provide come with a complimentary battery inspection. Anytime you visit our service department, we’ll take a look and let you know if there are any issues with your car’s battery.
