The 2016 Kia Sorento Earns IIHS Top Safety Pick+ Award

The styling has been upgraded, there are more features–but of course, it is still built safe for families.

Along with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety puts vehicles through a tough gauntlet of safety tests. The results help consumers decide if that car is right for their needs. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety crash test results are also used by the auto insurance industry to set rates.

When a vehicle is redesigned or dramatically upgraded, it’s submitted for testing to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. The 2016 Kia Sorento passed with flying colors and was named a 2015 Top Safety Pick+, the best overall ranking the organization gives to a car.

The IIHS gives rankings from “Poor” to “Good.” In their moderate-overlap front crash test, side crash test, roof strength, and head restraint/seat belt tests, the 2016 Kia Sorento earned scores of “Good.” They also received a top score of “Good” in their newer and very tough small-overlap front crash test, which simulates a crash impact on the driver’s front corner.

Recently the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety has also started recognized vehicles for their front crash prevention technology. The 2016 Kia Sorento offers an optional forward collision warning system, which helped the vehicle to move from just a Top Safety Pick to a Top Safety Pick+.

Besides forward collision warnings, the 2016 Kia Sorento can also be equipped with other advanced technologies like a blind-spot warning system and a rear cross-traffic warning system that makes backing up safer. A lane departure warning system also detects if the car is accidentally leaving its current lane.
