Classic Kia

You can find the new 2015 Kia Soul near Libertyville at Classic Kia right now, and soon it will be gaining a new, alternative-energy sibling. Kia is preparing to release their first regularly produced electric car: the 2015 Kia Soul EV. The model will run entirely on electric power, eliminating your need to ever go to a gas station.

So why did Kia pick their unique hatchback line for their first electric car? When the Kia Soul first entered the market, it was part of a trend of squarish hatchbacks. While the models it competed with have largely exited the market, the Kia Soul has become one of the automaker’s most popular models. When they were redesigning the vehicle for its second generation, they designed the car with an electric model in mind.

Powering the vehicle is a lithium-ion polymer battery that fits under the seats for better weight distribution and doesn’t suck up cargo space. Power is sent to an electric motor that produces the equivalent of 109 horsepower and 210 lb-ft of torque, which gives the electric car plenty of fun driving energy.

The 2015 Kia Soul EV has an electric range of 93 miles, which can vary depending on driving style and other factors. When you need to charge the vehicle, there are three different ports, including a 120-volt port that you can use to plug into any outlet. A 480-volt quick charger works best, and can get the car to an 80% charge in about 30 minutes!
