Christopher Walken adds “pizzazz” to Kia Motors’ Super Bowl commercial for the all-new 2016 Optima midsize sedan

Yesterday, you may have enjoyed the Sunday in reverence to the great American tradition. The Big Game brought another year of musical performances, sports, classic snack bowls, and awesome television advertisements. The dedicated sales team at Classic Kia was especially happy to see the new 2016 Kia Optima spot. Recently, we blogged about a new campaign that’s revitalizing the marketing behind the new Kia Optima. Here are the details behind the ad spot.

The TV spot, which runs at nearly 90 seconds (the Super Bowl aired a broadcast, 60-second version), prominently features Academy Award-winning actor, Christopher Walken. When a wife suggests to her husband to try the “Walken” closet, he finds a surprise and learns an important lesson about not blending in thanks to the innovative, standout design of the new 2016 Kia Optima.

This edition has a refined, premium-look interior with European styling and plenty of leg room, as standard across all of its five trims. There are three engine choices, one of which is a powerful 1.6-l turbocharged four-cylinder, paired with a seven-speed Dual Clutch Transmission. The 2016 Kia Optima has plenty of customization to give clients exactly what they’re asking for.

David & Goliath, Kia’s marketing company, created the ad, together with IBM Watson’s Personality Insights data, which helped determine how to make a compelling advertisement. Data gathering involved looking at social influencers and pulling data from Kia’s Tumblr page, where lots of sharing and content creation occurred.
