Four Kia Cars Make the IIHS Best Used Cars for Teens List

Classic Kia is a great place to buy used cars in Waukegan. The IIHS recently released an updated list of used cars recommended for teens. The crash test ratings organization started ranking used cars for teenage drivers after determining that most teens and parents were buying used cars. The list is broken up into models price under $20,000 and under $10,000 that have performed highly in IIHS crash tests. The Kia Optima, Kia Sportage, Kia Sorento, and Kia Sedona were all recommended by the IIHS.

Besides naming vehicles, the IIHS also provides some helpful criteria for parents:

No Sports Cars

While your teen may want to drive around in a sports car, they don’t need to be driving a V8. Choose models without big engines to eliminate temptation. Plus, teens will end up liking a four-cylinder engine’s fuel economy if they’re paying for gas.

Buy a Big, Heavy Vehicle

The IIHS doesn’t recommend anything below a midsize sedan or compact SUV (these are both about the same weight) for teenagers.

Electronic Stability Control

Electronic stability control gives drivers more control during curves and on wet roads. It’s been a standard feature on every car starting with the 2012 model year. Make sure any car you look at for your teen has this feature.
