As a car owner, there’s a lot of basic maintenance needed to take care of your vehicle. Typically, drivers are conscientious of when they need to get their oil changed and how often. Most of the time drivers can take their new Kia car to our Kia service center in Waukegan, IL, for any repairs. However, we think it’s also important to know how to do basic repairs yourself.
For example, knowing how to change a flat tire is an extremely useful skill for a driver to have. The first step is to make sure that you are in a safe spot, where you can change your tire. A safe spot is an area that is away from traffic and is not sloped upwards or downwards. Your safety is of the utmost importance in a situation like this.
Once you have put your car in park in a safe spot, you can begin. Locate your tire iron, jack, and spare to start the process. Make sure that your spare is not flat by using a tire pressure monitor. Begin to loosen the lugs of your wheel with your tire iron, but don’t remove them. When they are loose, place your jack under your vehicle in the correct position. Then, raise the jack until it makes contact with the frame of your vehicle and the flat tire is completely off the ground.
Now you can remove the wheel lugs completely and take the flat tire off the vehicle. Replace it with the spare tire and screw the wheel lugs back into place. Lower the jack until you can remove it and place it in your trunk. Immediately after, drive to Classic Kia to get a new tire and to make sure your car has not suffered any damage.
