Just because the weather is beginning to cool down doesn’t mean we have to forgo outdoor adventures. In fact, Autumn is arguably an even better time to visit your favorite natural areas. We’re positively buzzing just thinking about all of the landscapes washed in rich golds, stunning scarlets, blazing orange, and olive greens. Today, we’re bringing you some of the best autumnal hot spots for fishing, kayaking, canoeing, and hiking in Illinois and nearby states. When you’re planning your weekend escapes, you simply must make sure to add some of these gorgeous spots to your itineraries! more Note: Some of the nature areas or water trails may be pet and/or dog-friendly. Please check each launch site and area before bringing your pets, and be mindful of posted leash laws, seasonal regulations, and other restrictions to keep all visitors, wildlife, and fellow pets safe. Kickapoo Woods,Lower Little Calumet River, and Calumet Area Water Trails (Illinois/Indiana) This river originates in Gary Indiana and flows through East Chicago and Hammond, eventually emptying into Lake Michigan. BYO canoe, kayak or sailboat and set off for an afternoon of serenity along the water and amidst the trees. This area is also great for taking out your row boat or trolling motor to do a little fishing in the stocked waters; anglers in the area can expect autumnal catches to range from Chinook, Coho Salmon, Lake Trout, and Skamania Steelheads, with a few late-summer Yellow Perch. This spot makes a great family day outing! When you’re done with your water escapades, we recommend hitting the trails and walking paths in the Kickapoo Woods; it’s a great place to do some wildlife spotting, hone your nature photography skills, do a little model-airplane flying, and have a delicious picnic lunch!  If you’re stopping by the Indiana portion, we recommend the Grand Calumet River Conservation Trail and Little Calumet River Trails. Added Bonus: If you’re an experienced paddler, we highly recommend exploring the African American Heritage Water Trail.  It’s 7 miles long, and brings you from Beaubien Woods to Robbins. You’ll learn about nearly 2 centuries of African American History, learn about the river’s part in the Underground Railroad, regional history of the Civil Rights Movement, and touch on environmental justice issues. It’s a very interesting cultural excursion. The Skokie Lagoons Along the Chicago River Water Trails (Illinois) This system of seven lagoons is connected to channels on the Skokie River and covers 894 acres. It’s a great spot for canoeing and kayaking, where you’ll have plenty of opportunities to appreciate the stunning reflections of autumnal foliage along the river’s surface. Pack yourself a little picnic lunch, and pull up to one of the beaches in Evanston, Glencoe, or Winnetka.  Since the waters are stocked annually, anglers can enjoy a full day of fishing to close out the season; expect to net: Walleye, Northern Pike, Largemouth Bass, Channel Catfish, Crappie, Yellow Bass, Redear Sunfish, Bluegill, and Common Carp. Stretch your legs along the 11+ miles of paved trails Added Bonus: Consider volunteering for one of the Shedd Aquarium Action Days. On selected days in September through December, volunteers gather to participate in restoration and cleanup activities. This may include making room for native plants by removing invasive species in the woodlands, litter cleanup efforts, replanting native coastal plants along the river beds, and supporting other efforts to replant and reestablish local aquatic habitats. The Des Plaines River Trail and Greenway (Illinois and Wisconsin) Snaking its way through more than a dozen different forest preserves right here in Lake County for beautiful autumnal hikes and cycling. There are also 6 different launch sites along the river with free access and optional shoreline fishing areas; canoes, kayaks, paddleboards, and other non-motorized watercraft are allowed on the waters.  The northern part of the river offers ample opportunities for kayaking, canoeing, rowing, and boating, but visitors should be mindful to avoid beaver dams in the area. The area is also famous for its annual 18.5 mile canoe and kayak race that runs from Libertyville through to Buffalo Grove! The river runs all the way into Wisconsin, too, where we recommend you check out Kenosha and Pleasant Prairie. Areas of note: Local kayakers and canoers recommend checking out the following areas if you’re looking for some challenges: Interstate Grove to Route 60 is just about 7 miles. Route 60 to Allison Woods is around 13 miles. Allison Woods to Irving Park road is around 14 miles. The Confluence Loop entering at the Kankakee River is about 8 miles. Apostle Islands Sea Caves (Wisconsin) We cannot say enough about how gorgeous the Apostle Islands area is in the autumn! The area explodes with color and vibrant gradients of red, yellow, and orange can be noted along the rocky cliffside. There are numerous self-guided hiking and cycling trails in the area, but we would be remiss if we didn’t focus on the truly spectacular experience of the area’s water trails! Whether you choose to paddle through the Mainland Sea Caves or take a guided trip out to the Finn McCool Shipwreck and sandstone cliffs, this is an easy day-trip in the area. For those who wish to bask in the splendor of this area in full autumnal bliss, you may wish to spend a day at Sand Island, Basswood Island, or Bark Bay! If you’d like to spend a quieter, more leisurely time fishing, we recommend checking out Michigan Island or Ironwood Island. Local anglers also report best catches along the Sioux, Onion, Pikes, Cranberry, and Flag Rivers. In the autumn specifically, experts recommend checking out the shorelines along Basswood ISland, Hermit Island, and Oak Island. You may expect to catch Lake Trout, Brown Trout, Brook Trout, R rainbow Trout, Coho Salmon, Lake Sturgeon. Added Bonus: This is the perfect time to go camping in this area, with crisp, cool weather in the 70s during the day, dipping to the 40s at night for some cozy snuggling in your sleeping bag.  Plus, there’s the Bayfield Apple Festival which is a must-see 3 day festival in its 62nd year for 2024!

Today is National Tune Up Day!  We’ll be covering all of the different items that your service technician and mechanic will perform during an engine tune-up, as well as reiterating mileage service points for your vehicle.  It’s important you maintain regular tune-ups and service appointments to ensure that you avoid costly repairs or long-term damage to your vehicle. more Why do I need to do regular engine tune-ups? Is it really that big of a deal? An engine tune-up is specifically designed to thoroughly inspect and service your vehicle’s engine and its related components.  Skipping an engine tune-up may cause your vehicle to encounter driveability issues like stalling, trouble starting, engine misfires, poor gas mileage, or even overheating and leaving you stranded. What can I expect from an engine tune-up, and is it costly? Your mechanic may need to replace some parts as needed due to normal wear and tear, while others may be cleaned and inspected for anticipated replacement timelines.  Depending on the type of vehicle, amount of services rendered, and other factors, the average tuneup ranges between $500-$800*, which if regularly maintained will save you a lot of money in the long run on large or catastrophic repairs! Okay, let's go through the full low-down on what happens during an engine tune-up appointment: During the tuneup your spark plugs will be inspected, cleaned and replaced, as well as the spark plug wiring. Your spark plugs are a crucial part of the internal combustion process; their tiny spark ignites the fuel and as a result moves the pistons up and down to allow the engine to start, accelerate, and facilitate gear changes. You’ll notice it’s time to repair them when you’re getting poor gas mileage or notice some hard starts, rough idles, and poor acceleration capabilities. The air filter will be replaced to ensure proper fuel efficiency and performance, reduce likelihood of engine failure, and stave off more expensive repairs down the line. The fuel system will receive a cleaning and inspection. The fuel filter will be replaced to allow for optimal fuel flow, and prevent dirt, particles, and other contaminants from reaching the fuel injector and clogging the system. Failure to replace this at recommended intervals may lead to engine misfiring, prevent your vehicle from starting at all, rough or shaky idling, poor engine performance and poor fuel economy.  The fuel lines will also be inspected for signs of leakage or damage and replaced as needed. The Serpentine Belt and Timing Belt will be inspected for regular wear and proper tension.  Timing belts are replaced every 50-60,000 miles or if you notice engine vibrations, cracking, or fraying; the serpentine belt can be replaced slightly sooner if signs of significant wear show cracking, squealing, it becomes misaligned, or there are overheating issues. Emission levels will also be checked during a tune-up to help identify any ignition or engine performance issues.  This check will also include the oxygen sensors, fuel injectors and intake, and overall exhaust system. In some vehicles, poor emissions levels may be indicative of a damaged catalytic converter, faulty oxygen sensor, loose or defective gas caps, EVAP system defect, problems with the ignition, and other related faults. What else should you be checking on your vehicle at regular intervals? These are generally recommended guidelines from most vehicle manufacturers, but please note that some maintenance may be required sooner due to increased driving activities, environmental factors, age of the vehicle, and type of car (ICE, Hybrid, Electric, etc).  Refer to your owner manual for specific information on your personal make/model of vehicle. Every 3,000-6,000 miles you should receive an oil change. (Check your vehicle’s manufacturer guide for specific mileage requirements and type of oil - synthetic or regular. Older models may need closer to the 3k mark) If you’re purchasing or leasing a brand new vehicle, you’ll generally want to schedule a maintenance appointment at the 10,000 mile mark.  This initial service will often include tire rotation, air filter, oil change and parts. Older non-electronic ignition systems vehicles should be serviced either 10,000-12,000 miles or annually (whichever comes first!) and those with newer fuel injection systems and electronic ignitions can go 25,000+ between major tune-ups; check with your trusted mechanic or service department for guidelines, and consult your vehicle manufacturer handbook. At 10,000 miles you should have your tires rotated and vehicle aligned. At 30,000 miles you should have a full tune-up service including coolant, power steering, hoses and belts checked/replaced, and an engine checkup. At 50,000 miles you may need to service the following: Shocks and struts (suspension system), replace brake pads, new fuel filter, exhaust system inspection, automatic transmission tune-up and service. 50,000-70,000 miles you’ll need to inspect all of the belts, valves, and hoses, and you’ll want to install new tires if you haven’t already. (Always replace your tires at least 2 at a time) 60,000-70,000 miles you’ll need to have your fuel pump and water pump examined for cracks, wear, and tear and especially so if you notice any buzzing noises or your vehicle seems to stall frequently. Car Batteries last roughly about 80,000 miles, so if you notice you need to frequently jump your car, there’s a lot of erosion or leaking fluids, then you’ll want to have that swapped out ASAP before your car breaks down. Your spark plugs should be replaced between 80,000-100,000 miles. 90,000 miles is time to have another full tune-up and once over of your vehicle At 100,000 miles, you’ll need to have a bumper-to-bumper inspection of your vehicle including engine, transmission, water pump, timing belt, etc. You’ll need to switch to high-mileage coolants and spark plugs, too. At 125,000 miles, the O2 sensors will need to be replaced, the AC/Heating will need service, and you’ll need to replace: coolant, fuel filter, brake fluid, shocks and struts, and get an alignment. For high mileage vehicles 180,000-250,000 miles, you’ll want to check the axles, drive shafts, airflow sensor, belts and timing chain, power steering, chassis, fuel injectors, etc. It will need a thorough inspection from bumper to bumper and may require more frequent service maintenance for a smooth ride. *This pricing is an estimate and not a guaranteed price quote. It’s National Eye Health Week and we thought it would be a great time to tie this into driver visibility!  Today, we’re going to share some great ways you can improve your visibility and safety while on the road. Greater visibility can help you assess changing road and weather conditions, and thus prevent costly accidents, damages, and injuries. more Clean your headlights and replace any dim bulbs. Invest in a good headlight cleaning kit to remove dirt, grime, and build up to prevent fogging and scratching. In the vent that does not work, replace the casings if they’re fogged and scratched beyond repair.  Replace any burned out bulbs and take the time to inspect the wiring and have repairs made as needed!  Invest in some upgraded LED bulbs to increase your visibility in foggy conditions and inclement weather. Inspect and replace your windshield wipers. Regularly inspect your windshield wipers for signs of wear or any debris or build up on the blades.  Replace them at regular intervals of about 6 months, but beware colder climates or frequent usage may increase the replacement frequency. Buying the best quality level you can afford will also extend the lifespan of your wipers; all-season blades are the most efficient and highest longevity.  If you notice streaks or smears, rounded edges, or deep grooves or broken pieces, it’s time to replace!  You can increase the life of your wipers by defrosting and scraping snow and ice manually before running the wipers, and avoiding running the wipers on a dry windshield. Repair windshield cracks and chips Delaying a windshield repair for a tiny crack or chip can seem insignificant, but it actually increases the likelihood of significant damage spreading. A chip or crack in the windshield can compromise structural integrity of the glass. This may lead to the windshield taking on water, obstructing vision with large hairline cracks or large stars blocking visibility, or even extreme fogging of the windshield.  Repairing small cracks, stars, and chips can help save you the cost of replacing the entire windshield. Even after a repair you may still be able to vaguely see or slightly notice some of the damaged area, but if it’s been professionally filled with the proper grade resin it shouldn’t be an ongoing issue. Some insurance policies will provide coverage and installation assistance for windshield glass repair and/or a new windshield, but you’d have to check policy details to be sure. Add a blind spot mirror. Blindspot mirrors can provide additional wider views of the road around you. This can lead to safer lane changes, help you avoid accidents from approaching vehicles, assist in safer parking practices, and increase accessibility and visibility. Clean your windshield and apply hydrophobic coating. First, park your car in a cool, shaded area. To properly clean the windshield on your vehicle, you’ll want to select the right cleaning products. Opt for using ammonia-based cleaners to protect any tinting and leave you with a streak-free shine.  You can also create your own cleaning solution by mixing equal parts of water with household vinegar. Use a clean, fresh microfiber cloth to apply your cleaners without creating any abrasions or scratches.  When you’re finished, consider applying a hydrophobic coating to the glass to assist in increased visibility and reduced impact on your wipers. Make sure wiper fluid is always filled with a seasonally appropriate fluid. Opt for eyeglasses with transitional lenses or wear sunglasses to combat glare. Proper eyewear can of course correct your vision so you’re seeing clearly, but modern day options can provide additional protection from sun damage as well as glare. Look for glasses and eyewear that offer UV protection, polarization, photochromic lenses or clip-on sunglasses filters.

Whether you’re a kid or a kid at heart, there’s no denying the incredible joy and excitement that comes with a round of Mini Golf.  It’s a little bit cheesy, a little bit challenging, and a whole lot of fun, and we know you’ll have a blast if you add any of these to your upcoming road trip itineraries. more First up on our list, we’re starting with a course in our own backyard!  Just a hop, skip, and a jump away in Lincolnshire is the incredible Par-King Mini Golf Course. This unique vintage miniature golf course has been open since 1955 and currently features two course options featuring 18 holes, 19 obstacles and 7 water holes!  Plus, every two to three years, the course is updated with a mixture of refurbished vintage features as well as cutting edge new features.  Visitors be forewarned this is a cash-only venue, and even if you’re just walking along there is a non-player fee to join in, but we’re pretty sure everyone’s going to want in on the fun.  It can get pretty busy, however, thanks to its sterling reputation, so make sure you arrive with that in mind and have a little extra patience. The course is open to anyone 48” tall and up, so your littlest ones will be out of luck. Up North just a few hours drive away in Madison, Wisconsin, you’ll find the unique indoor and outdoor miniature golf courses of Vitense Golfland! Rated #1 in the state of Wisconsin, and ranking in the top favorites across the US, Vitense allows visitors to select from 2 18-hole outdoor course and 1 indoor 18-hole course.  This unique facility offers fun for all ages and skill levels and provides many interesting challenges beyond the basic putt-putt course!  You’ll find yourself strolling under waterfalls, ducking and walking under a giraffe’s legs, stepping up a lighthouse, climbing a mountain, and so much more. In Granger, Indiana, offering up three 9-hole courses winding their way through a stunningly maintained Japanese Garden.  Leaving behind the kitschy, cheesy attractions of a roadside course, this upscale option offers a peaceful and fun excursion. We really love the fact that two of the three available courses are also ADA accessible, making it a great option for those who utilize mobility aids, have disabilities or sensory issues, and may be traveling with service animals in tow. The Mid-Autumn Moon Festival is here!  This special harvest festival from East and Southeast Asian cultures is celebrated in mid-September to early October, or during the 8th month of the Lunisolar Calendar. Families come together during this time to celebrate and enjoy the autumn harvests, light special lanterns, and admire the “fullest moon of the year”. This year’s official holiday falls on September 17th, with celebrations happening this weekend in many towns and cities. more Wishing you a delightful, Mid-Autumn Moon Festival! We’re once again expanding our road trip destinations outside the Midwest, but this time we’re headed East! In honor of Mayflower Day, we’re exploring the history of Plymouth, Massachusetts, landing place of the historic Mayflower ship.  Located just south of Boston, this historic town is the site of the first Pilgrim Settlement founded in 1620.  This quaint New England town is chock full of coastal activities like whale watching, sailing, and boating as well as plenty of top tier dining and shopping, and of course, historical sites!  So, hop in your new car from Classic and let’s hit the road to take a deep dive in American history. more Some of the Must See Mayflower Historic Sites in Plymouth Alden Family Historic Sites - These historic properties are located in the nearby town of Duxbury, and are now managed by descendants of the Alden Family. First, check out the Alden Homestead Site which contains the archaeological remains of the original house built by John Alden, and the John Alden House and historic museum.  Explore the life of the Alden family through historical tours and lectures, take a tour of the house and learn about the history of early American/US origins, take a self guided tour of the properties, or enjoy the Alden Pilgrim Quest guided walk that takes you back in time to the founding days of America!  You can even take a nighttime haunted house tour during the fall season. Burial Hill - This historic cemetery and burial ground marks the site of several Pilgrims, as well as family monuments for early settlers of Plymouth. Coles Hill - This National Historic Landmark contains the first cemetery used by the Mayflower Pilgrims, and has been owned since 1820 by the Pilgrim Society of preservationists, helping to preserve and document the early history and founding of the US.  Some of the monuments and memorial stones here date back to the Tercentenary Celebration of the Pilgrim’s landing, as well as a granite sarcophagus which houses skeletal remains believed to be early Mayflower settlers. The area also has beautiful sweeping views of the water and makes a stunning spot for some sunset viewing. Harlow Old Fort House Museum - One of the few remaining 17th century buildings, it originally housed the family of settler William Harlow, a farmer, cooper, and town official who also served in the local militia.  You can take a guided tour featuring a plethora of hands-on activities and historical facts!  Learn about what makes this house a special landmark, see artifacts and antiques from a bygone era, and learn about Early American life in colonial New England. The museum also offers special events throughout the year including historical lectures, special presentations, and holiday seasonal events such as A Christmas Carol. The Jabez Howland House - This historic home has been preserved, restored, and redecorated with 17th century period furnishings and accoutrement. It’s the only remaining house in existence which housed actual pilgrims, John and Elizabeth Howland and their son, Jabez Howland.  You can also visit the nearby John Howland Homestead Site and read a little more about the history of the Howlands. The Jenney Interpretive Center - Dedicated to sharing the life, times, and significant historical impact on of the 51 Pilgrims who arrived in Plymouth and kickstarted the early founding days of the US. Enjoy walking tours of the historic Plymouth district, tours of National Monument to the Forefathers, and numerous educational lectures and programming. The Mayflower II and the Mayflower Meetinghouse - The Mayflower 2 was built in England to be a replica of the original 17th century ship that transported the Pilgrims here. The ship is a working vessel and floating classroom, allowing visitors an up-close view of the conditions and journey of the Pilgrims across the Atlantic.  The nearby Mayflower meetinghouse stores records from the original Pilgrims and their ancestors, and is currently the 5th structure in this location. The Mayflower Society House and Colonial Revival Gardens - This stunning 18th century period house museum is operated by the Mayflower Society and contains three centuries of artifacts and historical displays. And of course, Plymouth Rock itself.  Although it is rather unassuming in size, this historical monument is protected along the shores of Plymouth Harbor at the world-famous site where the original Mayflower landed. Take The Ultimate Twilight Fan Road Trip Through Washington and Oregon Book and Movie Stops in Washington: Forks, Washington - Located about 4 hours outside of Seattle, this tiny little town has truly embraced its pop culture fame. Stop by the Forks Visitor Center to grab your free “Twilight Packet” to help guide you with a map to all the important places; places from the Books mentioned include the Swan House, Cullen House, Forks High School (Kalama High School), City of Forks Welcome Sign, Forks Police Station, Bella’s Truck from the movie. You can also check out the “Forever Twilight Collection” located at the Chamber of Commerce with actual props and costumes from the movie as well as photo-ops and fan-made memorabilia.  Grab a Bite to Eat at Sully’s Burgers or Pacific Pizza, both of which offer unique Twilight themed entries on their menu.  You can even book a room at the new Swan House AirBnB or Jacob Black’s House AirBnB.  Stop by the “Treaty Line” on La Push Rd and choose a side: wolves or vampires (right down the road from Jacob’s House). Park your car at the Forks Community Hospital and check out the Dr. Carlisle Cullen parking sign!  And of course, be sure to take a beautiful hike through the lush, mossy green forest trails of the Hoh Rainforest. La Push, Washington - Although Meyers never mentions which beach Bella and her friends visited, you can check out all three beaches just 20 minutes drive outside of Forks. First Beach is part of the Quileute Nation, and Second and Third Beach are part of the Olympic National Park.  These beautiful beaches are not the exact ones used in filming, as that was actually in Oregon, but they’re just as described in the books and look very similar to the movie sets.  If you only have time for one, Second Beach is recommended by fans as the closest match to the movie’s location. Port Angeles, Washington - This is the town where Bella and her best friends try on Prom Dresses, Bella shops for books on local vampire and Quileute lore, and where Bella and Edward have their memorable first date!  While the dress shop and bookstore are fictitious locations, there’s plenty to see and do here from galleries to small shops and museums.  Plus, you can grab a bite at Bella Italia and snag Bella’s Mushroom Ravioli, reenacting your favorite romantic scene!  Just outside of Port Angelos is Hurricane Ridge, a gorgeous hiking spot with misty mountain evergreens and stunning waterfalls. Washougal, Washington - Get out your hiking gear and hang on tight spider monkey, because we’re heading over for a day hike at the Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area and making our way to the Cape Horn Overlook for fantastic views of the river gorge and waterfalls, and reenacting our favorite goofy Edward and Bella scene. It’s housekeeping week, so we thought we’d do a little tidying and minding of our vehicles!  From important paperwork to cleaning and maintenance tips, you’ll find an easy care guide for maintaining the interior of your vehicle. more Let’s start by making sure we have the essentials ready to go at a moment’s notice! Inside your vehicle in a safe space, generally the center console or glovebox or wallet, you should have readily accessible: Your Vehicle Registration and/or official dated receipt of payment for updated registration if renewed recently. Proof of Insurance with updated policy coverage dates (you can also download this to your mobile phone wallet and/or utilize a digital app version in most states) Your Driver’s License should be up to date and in your possession at all times. Maintenance Records of recent repairs and regular oil changes Your vehicle owner’s manual should be accessible in a pinch to identify warning lights and access important make/model information for maintenance and safety Emergency contact numbers in an ICE list on your phone or a paper list in the glovebox Important: Never store your vehicle title inside of the car itself. This is the official proof of ownership for your vehicle, and should it get damaged or stolen this may cause significant issues for recovery or insurance purposes. The title should be stored at home in a fireproof safe or other related location. Likewise if you have a “bill of sale” for your vehicle, it should be stowed with the title and never inside the vehicle itself. Basic emergency and maintenance tools you should keep in your vehicle include: A tire pressure gauge to maintain proper pressure Jumper cables in case of emergency A spare tire with tire jack A tire patch kit and air pump A few blankets and towels In cold weather months: include a small container of kitty litter and/or road salt with a portable shovel in case of emergency LED flashers or reflective cones/triangles in case of emergency A handcrank or small pocket LED flashlight It’s always a good rule of thumb to purchase a basic car emergency kit, but you can also assemble your own with some of our previous blog tips from earlier this year. We’ve detailed exactly what to put in your homemade emergency kit from top to bottom.  It’s also a great idea to have an extra set of clothes on hand to change into if you get stranded in inclement weather or have an emergency. To keep your car clean regularly you should keep on hand at home and in your garage: A hydrophobic windshield/glass treatment to aid in proper visibility. Coolant/antifreeze to prevent your vehicle from overheating. Proper motor oil for your make/model of vehicle so you can always top it off before long drives and maintain proper fluid levels. Glass Cleaner for streak-free, obstruction free windshields Specialized Car Shampoo and Rinse that’s formulated to remove debris and grime without harming your paint or wrap. Carpet Cleaner powder or spray to maintain vehicle upholstery and cut down on environmental allergens and debris, and use a soft bristle brush. Interior Car Cleaning Wipes specifically formulated to protect your vehicle’s interior fabric (leather, PVC, fabric, etc) Clean microfiber cloths instead of sponges as they pick up dirt and debris without scratching or creating dreaded paint swirls. A clay bar to help remove dirt and contaminants from your vehicle after washing with cleansers and shampoos. A decent portable vacuum cleaner that can adequately remove dust, dirt, and debris while trapping allergens that can reach into small nooks, crannies, and side pockets. We love including our kids in our car care maintenance routines not just for family bonding, but vehicle owner educational purposes. Teaching younger drivers how to upkeep their vehicle is a great way to promote regular vehicle maintenance when they’re ready to drive their own.  Plus, playing with bubbles is always a fun time! Some professional detailer tips to maintain your vehicle’s aesthetics as long as possible include: Cleaning your vehicle out of direct sunlight and in a shady area to allow the cleansers to work efficiently without evaporation. Don’t use sponges in a swirling, circular motion; choose one direction to wipe and stick with it! Utilize more than one bucket: one for an initial rinse down, one for clean soapy water, one with clean water for rinsing the dirty sponge/microfiber cloth; this eliminates chances of dragging grit and grime back onto the car after it’s been cleaned. Clean your car starting with a washdown of the tires, followed by top to the bottom of the vehicle for maximum efficiency. If you spot bugs or bird droppings on your vehicle, make sure to remove them by using a special removal cleaner or some sort of lubricant to avoid scratching the paint. Remove sap, dead bugs, and animal droppings as quickly as you can when you spot them. Letting them sit can cause corrosion, scratches, and stains.

Since car care can be a little overwhelming, we’re bringing you six friendly service tip reminders with some great tips on maintenance checks for Autumn. September is a very busy time for family and friends, and it’s easy to fall behind on car maintenance as work resumes and kids go back to school.  Why wait until the weather gets stormy, slippery, and you’re stuck in the lurch?  Be sure to schedule an appointment at the service center now with your favorite mechanic, and ask them to check these areas as a starting point. more Service the Heating/Cooling System. As the temperatures in Autumn tend to fluctuate from mild heat waves during the day and dropping at night, it’s important you check your cooling system hoses, belts, and connections.  Ensure that your AC Unit, Radiator, and other cooling system parts receive tune-ups before major issues arise. Switching back and forth between heating and cooling is normal for the first few weeks of autumn, so be sure everything receives proper maintenance. Examine the Steering and Suspension. - Inclement weather conditions such as fog, rain, flash flooding, and even fallen debris from trees can lead a driver to stop short in an instant.  Be sure that your steering and suspension have had a thorough inspection by your trusted mechanic.  It is recommended you have an alignment now, before winter weather strikes, to ensure that you have accurate steering and suspension.  Replace any worn or damaged parts immediately, don’t wait until slippery conditions cause an accident! Ensure your car’s headlights and casings are clean, and replace dim or broken bulbs. Fall has ushered in the beautiful fall foliage, and also those gorgeously moody, foggy and misty mornings, and the waning evening sunlight.  It’s important that you make sure you have bright, clear headlights to maintain road safety and reduce accidents. Check Tire Pressure, Tires Health, and Tread Depth - There’s nothing more unpleasant than hydroplaning in a sunshower or catching a pile of fallen wet leaves while trying to stop short. Ensure that you can stop on a dime with properly inflated tires and reasonable tread depth.  Switch out your summer tires for all-season or winter tires before the late autumn hits, to prevent accidents from improper road grip.  Check your tire pressure and make sure the PSI matches the manufacturer requirements (can be located in your manual or on a label on the side door pockets or frame.)  Look for signs of wear and tear such as bulges and bubbles, cracks or small tears, or significant tread wear leaving bald spots.  Consider rotating your tires if you’ve not done it in a while. Inspect wiper blades, windshield, and test the heating/defroster. As the weather gets colder and rainier, it’s vital to your safety that you have properly working wiper blades to clear away wet leaves and debris, and maintain clear visibility during inclement weather.  It’s also important to check the defroster and heat blower functionality, as these two elements must be functioning properly to ensure wiper efficiency.  Before it gets too cold out, consider applying a thorough application of a water-repellant such as RainX to the glass surfaces on your vehicle to aid in visibility during storms.  Mid to Late Autumn temperature dips can also create some frosty temperatures at night.  Ensure that your heat and defrost vents are free, clear, and functioning at optimal condition before cold weather hits! Keep your car clear of debris by installing some all-weather floor mats and trunk mats. Fall weather means more time outdoors in nature, and with it comes all manner of dirt, grime, dust, and debris as well as those blustery, rainy days that bring mud and muck.  Protect your car’s interiors and cut down on your cleaning maintenance with a good set of rubber/silicone floor mats!
